It is one of the most important steps within the publishing process of a new book. Printing the ‘pre-first editions’ which include galley proofs and advanced reader copies are highly important for both the author and the publishing house. These proofs offer a tangible document to edit. It is giving the opportunity to check one final look at the book before it goes into production to be sold. With Bound galleys, it offers multiple effects on the new book.
Galley proofs are the advanced preliminary versions of a soon-to-be-published new book. These proofs are meant for the author to proofread, review and either approve or suggest changes. This is the chance for the author, proofreaders and editors to preview the book and confirm its accuracy, error-free and ready for publication. The author carefully proofread the galley version in PDF format or other file format. In this process, it is very important to read closely in only one version for the spelling and grammatical errors and the formatting in each version. Galley proofs are prepared in different forms either uncut and unbound or in some cases electronically transmitted.
Once the author’s proof has been approved, it takes about 1 or 2 weeks to implement the correction, finalize the production process and publish the new book. Further, bound galleys are not for sale. They are uncorrected proofs intended for preview for their decision-making purpose however it will be changed significantly in the final product. And once the galley books are approved it will be moved to final publication and soon it will be published publicly.
